Supportive Skincare

Updated: Mar 5

When emending comes to recommending skincare I apply a supportive approach using high quality products and simple skincare rituals. Continue reading to learn more about my most common skincare advice.

Skin Soaking

I encourage skin soaking morning and night at the basin using a warm water and soft muslin or bamboo facecloth. The process of skin soaking helps to rehydrate and prepare your skin to better absorb products. Simply compress your face 3-5 time with warm water and a soft cloth. Be intentional during this process by slowing down and taking a few deep grounding breaths each time.

Cleansing

I recommend cleansing morning and night at the basin using a warm water and soft muslin or bamboo facecloth. Avoid cleansing in the shower as the pH, high temperature and firm water pressure can disrupt the delicate facial skin.

For sensitive skin use the Calming Cleansing Balm. Massage into a dry skin to gently remove impurities and dissolve make-up. Wet hands and massage into skin as it transforms into a creamy milk for easy removal. Remove using warm water and a soft facecloth with gentle sweeping movements.

For a normal to dry skin apply Hydrating Cleansing Lotion to a compressed skin and massage fingertips lightly in quick circular movements to loosen dirt, sebum, sweat and sunscreen. Apply slightly more pressure with slower movements to stimulate the deeper tissues. Steam the skin using a warm facial compress and remove with slow but firm sweeping movements.

For oily and acne prone skin massage Balancing Gel Cleanser with damp hands into skin with large sweeping movements and gentle pumping action. Effortlessly cleansing the skin without stripping or over stimulating it. Hold a warm facial compress to the skin and remove with slow but firm sweeping movements.

Mānuka Honey can also be applied as a cleanser for all skin types due to its antimicrobial, antibacterial, hydrating and gently exfoliating properties. Apply 1tsp to a compressed skin and leave to activate for a few minutes. Wet fingertips and gently massage into skin. Hold a warm facial compress to the skin and remove with slow but firm sweeping movements.

When removing eye make-up I always suggest using a small sea sponge as they are incredibly effective at cleansing yet gentle on the skin. It's important to keep your pillowcases, facecloths, sponges, skincare and beauty tools hygienic by washing frequently in hot sopay water and air dry in direct sunlight.

Treatment

How often you exfoliate depends on your skin type. When using 2-in-1 Resurfacing Exfoliant decant 2tsp into wet hands and rub together to activate enzymes. Gently massage over face, neck and décolletage and leave on the skin between 5-10 minutes. This exfoliator contains gentle fruit acids and enzymes, jojoba esters and finely ground bamboo particles for deeply nourishing cleanse. Do not use if skin is inflamed or sensitised.

Deep Cleanse Antioxidant Masque can be applied once a week to a cleansed skin and is suitable for all skin types including sensitive. This soothing masque delivers essential antioxidants and fatty acids to nourish and kaolin clay to balance and remineralise the skin. Massage in 1tbs and leave on for 15-20 minutes before removing thoroughly with warm water and a soft facecloth.

When your skin is feeling sensitive but needs some extra support with deeper cleansing generously apply Mānuka Honey to a compressed skin and leave on for around 30 minutes. The longer duration further activates the natural healing, enzymatic and humectant properties meaning it regenerates, gently exfoliates and rehydrates the skin. Wet fingertips and gently massage prior to removing with warm water and a soft facecloth.

Balancing

Once the skin has been cleansed it is important to apply a toning product. Tap water has an imbalanced pH and left on the skin would disrupt our acid mantel. To counteract this imbalance we apply a slightly acidic toner. Rose Blossom Hydrating Mist is a great option as it's suitable for all skin types including sensitive. Toners can be applied a few different ways either as a mist spritzing over the face, decanting into hands and pressing into the skin or on a cotton pad and sweeping over the skin.

Protecting

While your skin is slightly damp with toner layer your serums and moisturisers. Remembering lighter water based serums and eye creams go on first followed by heaver moisturisers, balms, oils then sunscreen.

Antioxidant Facial Serum is a versatile daily serum suitable for all skin types to mitigate free radical damage. Free radicals are produced in the skin as a result of UV exposure, pollution, stress, processed foods and as a by-products of cellular energy production. Free radicals generate inflammation which leads to oxidative stress. This process permanently damages cells, collagen, elastin and accelerates ageing. Examples of protective antioxidants include coenzyme Q10, vitamins A, C and E.

Marigold Hydrating Créme is a deeply reparative and protective moisturiser applied morning and night. Suitable for all skin types especially dry and dehydrated skin. Can also be massage into hands and feet as a nourishing overnight treatment.

You can combine a few drops of Antioxidant Facial Oil with your moisturiser for added hydration or apply over your serum as a moisturiser. You can also massage directly into skin following skin soaking, cleansing or toning. Otherwise combine oil in your hands with a few mists of toner and massaging into skin. Follow this same practice when applying oil to the body. Simply towel excess water and massage directly into slightly damp skin.

In the morning complete your skin care routine by applying Daily Moisturise with Sunscreen. This non-nano zinc based sunscreen offers SPF 20+ sun protection by physically blocking UV absorption. Zinc has incredibly healing properties and is suitable for all skin types including inflamed and acne skins. For an easy application always warm zinc between the palms of your hands prior to use.

Internal

It is essential to the structure and function of the cellular membrane, forms part of the acid mantel, improves the viscosity of sebum and is anti-inflammatory. Omega-3's are abundant in algae and marine animals. A supplementary maintenance dose is around 3,000mg daily. If you are taking blood thinning medication please consult your Doctor for guidance prior to supplementing.
